After making sure that Brig and Tommy had no hidden weapons, their newest captors loaded them into a nondescript car and drove away. Brig noticed that they had a police escort, who were doing their best to clear their way for them. Whoever they were going to see apparently had some juice.
After about thirty minutes, they pulled up to what appeared to be a hotel. Once again, not the quality of a Brigham International, but better than anything Brig had stayed in recently. They exited the car and walked through the hotel lobby, which was oddly empty given the time of day.
The group proceeded up a set of stairs to the first floor, where one man inserted a key card into the door lock and entered while another man dragged Brig inside. As Tommy was being pulled elsewhere and the door closed, Brig heard him yell out, “Convince your father!” One of Tommy’s handlers told him to shut up, and delivered a painful blow, ensuring Tommy’s compliance.
The room was nondescript. It had a bathroom, a closet, two twin beds with a table and a reading lamp positioned in between, a television inside a cabinet, and a desk with a telephone. The only window had its curtains closed. The room was tidy but old. Only one man stayed with Brig. The other man shut the door as he left.
Brig’s guard motioned for Brig to sit down on the bed. The man took off his jacket, revealing a gun inside a shoulder holster and sat down at the desk. “You might as well get comfortable, you’re going to be here for a while,” the man suggested.
“Who are you? What do you want?” Brig asked.
“You can call me Yellow, and I want you to keep quiet and do as I tell you.” Yellow retrieved his phone and sent a text message. Within a few seconds, his phone dinged. Satisfied with the response, he put his phone away and reached for the television remote. Brig sat and stared back at Yellow, waiting to be told what to do next.
“You look pretty rough. Why don’t you take a shower and clean yourself up?” Yellow suggested.
“What are you going to do to me? What’s going on?”
“I’m not going to do anything to you. I’m just here to make sure that you don’t get away. My understanding is that if you do what they ask, you’ll live.”
“What if I don’t want to live?”
“Don’t do as your told,” Yellow said sarcastically. “It makes no difference to me.” He pointed the remote at the TV and turned it on.
“What if I attacked you right now?”
Yellow laughed. “Judging by the looks of you, I’m confident I could take you. And I do have this.” Yellow patted the gun at his side. “Then I’d have to restrain you. That would be uncomfortable. Nobody wants to be uncomfortable.”
Brig stood. “I’d like to take a shower,” Brig explained.
“Feel free. Just leave the door open. I don’t want any accidents.”
