- Where did I come from? In other words, what was I doing before I was born?
- Why am I here? What’s the point of all of this?
- Where am I going? When I die, what happens? Does what I do right now, have any influence on what happens next?
Religion helps people answer these questions. Children, who need hope. Adults who have had something tragic happen to them. Elders, that want to be assured that when they die they’re going to a better place.
However, while religion has a place in humanity. Humans as a race inevitably need to outgrow this old paradigm. As an individual, religion stunts your infinite progress. It gives you comfort in your time of need, but it forces you to stop thinking critically. If too many humans stop thinking critically, the race as a whole stops progressing, and if I was the creator, and I created all of this magnificence (humans being one part of it), I wouldn’t want it destroyed. Religion is one way to get through this life, but if there is a God/a higher power, I think he would be disappointed in me if I just took somebody else’s word for truth.
I would be very interested in your hearing how others answer these questions.
