Go Ahead! Pay-tronize me…

January 4, 2021

Dear Suicide By Everest/Scott J. Thurman Fan(s),

2020 sucked! And I’m sorry to say it, but for most of you, 2021 is going to suck even more. But I do have some good news. At the risk of breaking the internet, I will be posting all of “Suicide By Everest” on my website, and it will be free to anyone who wants to read it (again).

Now I know what some of you may be thinking: “Are you crazy! Are you insane! Have you completely lost your mind. why? Why? WHY would you give away what is conceivably one of the greatest contemporary works of fiction for nothing?”

First, I’m a giver. I give. Give, give, give, give, give. It’s what I do. Perhaps to a fault. My reward is imagining the readers smiling, laughing, shocked, angry, disappointed face when they read some of the disturbing parts in SxE.

Second, believe it or not, I didn’t sell that many copies. And most of those that I did sell, sold through Amazon. Which means that Jeff Bezos (and his ex-wife) took many of the few dollars that it did generate. And although I still hold out hope that Suicide By Everest will soon be a major motion picture (or even a minor one), I think I have to come to grips with the fact that Quentin T’s people aren’t going to call my people.

Third, I want to explore new ways of telling stories. There are so many ways to create and deliver content these days. Technology has, and continues to create, new ways of entertaining and informing people. Definitely more to write on this topic in the future.

Fourth, I’ve always liked the idea of “busking”. Hitting the virtual road, and offering my “art” to anybody that has an interest, and then asking (nicely) for the reader/listener to pay whatever they think it’s worth. I’m also open to having patrons. Most people are offended by being patronized, but I welcome it. If you would like to add your esteemed name to my growing list of esteemed patrons, it’s simple…just send me some money. Here are just a couple of ways to send me money:

I will donate the first $1 of every patronization to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

Here is a complete list of patrons and how much money we’ve raised for suicide prevention.

Thanks for reading. It’s going to be a great year…at least for me. …Scott
